Nine more peaks opened for climbing |

Kathmandu, May 16: Nine more
Himalayan peaks have been opened for climbing during the
current spring season that ends May 31, the Ministry of
Tourism said. The 8413 meters high Lhotse Middle is the
tallest peak opened for climbers, the Ministry said.
There are now 13 peaks over 8000 meters open to climbers
in Nepal. Other peaks opened are: Peak-28 (7590m),
Hunchi (7063m), Numri (6677m), Tengkangpoche (6500m), P2
(6251m), Thapa Peak (6012m), Nheserku (5927m) and
Thorang Peak (5751m).
Several teams have applied to climb the peaks this
season. There are now 160 expedition peaks open to
climbers. Six opened peaks are in Solokhumbu and one
each in Gorkha, Mustang and Manang. "The move will
create additional attraction to mountaineering climbing
in Nepal," the Ministry of Tourism said. The Ministry
regulates climbing in Nepal and earns revenue by
charging climbing fees from expeditions. Locals get
employment as porters and guides.
